May 27th: JJ McDonagh added to Celtic Clash 2

Assassin fighter, JJ McDonagh, who recently hit the headlines for his knock out of the year contender against the talented Jake Ball, has been added to ‘Celtic Clash 2: The Rising’, a card scheduled to take place at the National Stadium in Dublin on Saturday May 27th, co-promoted by Leonard Gunning’s Boxing Ireland and Tony Davitt.

The card, which is fast becoming one for boxing fans not to miss and features Stephen Carroll, Eric Donovan, and Sean Creagh, along with Assassin`s very own Vladimir Belujsky. JJ McDonagh (14-3-0), who claimed both the Irish super-middleweight title (against Darren Cruise) and the WBA International light-heavyweight title (against Jake Ball) in 2016 will look to continue his impressive winning streak with this being his first outing of 2017.

Having only had one defeat to his name (against Schiller Hyppolite) since a prize-fighter showdown with Eamon O Kane back in 2012, the Mullingar powerhouse is certainly one of Ireland`s most dangerous fighters. Last November, JJ had the opportunity of fighting 7-0 prospect, Jake Ball, on Sky Sports, on the same bill as Katie Taylor in Wembley Arena.

With the odds stacked against the Irishman who had moved up in weight for this occasion, Jake Ball found himself on the wrong side of not only one of the shocks of the year, but one of the knock out`s of the year, as JJ dismantled the Englishman inside the first round. Next month, JJ`s brother, Paddy, will also take centre stage at The National Stadium in Dublin, as he takes on Steve Collins Jr, the son of former world champion, Steve Collins, in a bid to reclaim the Irish light-heavyweight title.

JJ McDonagh ‘‘This is a fantastic opportunity to stay busy and pick up another win. The last 18 months have been fantastic, having won four fights out of four, along with winning two prestigious titles, so I`m really hoping to build on from that.’’

Kaz Evans, founder of Assassin Boxing Promotions ‘‘May 27th is shaping up to be a historic night for Irish Boxing, and it is an honour to have JJ on the card. There has been a lot of speculation about a potential rematch with Jake Ball, and a win on May 27th will put JJ in good stead if that fight was to happen.’’
